Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs with Pickles and Red Onion
This blog post was sponsored by KING’S HAWAIIAN(R) but the opinions are all my own. #GameTimeGrilling
There’s no denying that I’m a born and raised Texan gal. I say y’all more times than I care to admit and I’m not the least bit sorry for it. Because Texas is just awesome, y’all! The people, the venues, the entertainment — but what makes Texas stand out even more is our love for food! Namely our love for barbecue and bacon, which inspired this recipe for Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs.
It’s the perfect recipe for hanging out with friends and family while watching the game. These bacon wrapped hot dogs will have all your guests, both big and small, excited about eating a hot dog.
Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs
- 8 hot dogs
- 8 slices of bacon
- 1/2 cup Kings Hawaiian Smoked Bacon BBQ Sauce
- 1 pkg (8ct) Kings Hawaiian Hot Dog Buns
- chopped red onion
- sweet pickle relish
- butter (for the hot dog buns)
- Heat grill to medium heat.
- Place a slice of bacon on a flat cutting board. Place the hot dog at one end of the bacon and roll the bacon around the hot dog in a spiraling motion. Secure with a toothpick at each end. Set aside and repeat for remaining ingredients.
- Place wrapped hot dogs on a clean, hot grill and cook, watching carefully. Flip once one side looks cooked and crispy.
I’m not sure if you have to, but I always soak my toothpicks in a bowl of water for a few minutes before using them on the grill. When I grill with wooden skewers I do the same thing. Maybe I’m just weird. Or maybe I’m just really afraid of fire. Either way, either soak them or don’t, it’s up to you!
We like our bacon a little bit on the crispy side so I sometimes cook mine longer than some people like. If you like your bacon more chewy and less crispy, then just cook a little bit less.
A few minutes before pulling the hot dogs off the grill, baste both sides with KING’S HAWAIIAN Smoke Bacon BBQ Sauce. Made with chunks of rich, smoky bacon combined with a tangy sweet sauce, the result is not only a bacon lover’s dream, it’s the perfect addition to these Bacon Wrapped Hot Dog. And if you’d like, you can butter the tops of the hot dog buns and grill them just long enough for them to warm up and get a little toasty on the top. YUM!
We added some chopped red onion and pickle relish to our Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs, but the possibilities here are endless.
I’m a huge fan of the salty/sweet combo and these Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs definitely deliver. There are so many flavors working together to provide a party right inside your mouth.
The tangy, sweet, bacon-infused barbecue sauce combined with the sweet hot dog buns truly makes an irresistible game day recipe. And for a limited time, when you shop at your local HEB (fellow Texans), you can save with the special Combo Loco offers. I’m all about saving money! I love that HEB is a one-stop-shop for all my game day shopping needs. There’s no need for bouncing around from store to store. Because, really, who has time for all that?
And I think I forgot to mention how much I love these KING’S HAWAIIAN split top hot dog buns! Not only are they easier to open without tearing the bun, but I feel they fit in my hand much easier. Because game day calls for foods we can eat with our hands, right?
Elevate your game day menu this year with these delicious Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs featuring KING’S HAWAIIAN BBQ sauce and Hot Dog Buns! You can’t really go wrong with these on your menu!
